Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania
The Mariner East II Pipeline is nearing completion, bringing volatile fracked natural gas liquids from the Marcellus Shale to the Sunoco/Energy Transfer Partners Marcus Hook export terminal. Since the beginning of construction, at least 112 formal violations have been issued by the state, and the FBI opened an investigation of Democratic Governor Tom Wolfe’s dealings in the pipeline approval process. One of the most recent violations occurred on August 10, when “8,000 gallons of drilling fluid leaked to the surface […] and polluted the lake at Marsh Creek State Park” according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
